If your have an ideal home with a small living room, space is a precious commodity. Although it might seem like a disadvantage at first, smaller living rooms if decorated well can actually be more inviting and intimate. All it takes is a good furniture selection and layout to bring the best out of your limited living space. We at Creatalog have curated a bunch of tips to keep in mind for your ideal home while designing your living room layout, in order to get the most out of your living space.

1. Go for a loveseat instead of a Sofa

A two-seater sofa is one of the best ways in interior design to make a small living space feel a lot larger than it actually is, for any ideal home. There is a need to tastefully decorate a loveseat sofa set however. There needs to be an optimum distance between the armchairs and the side tables for the sofa set in the living space to feel comfortable and not congested. Keep in mind to choose solid colors in upholstery instead of intense patterns.

2. Let the light in

There are multiple ways to decorate an interior space but the crowning jewel of any comfortable space is always natural light. If you have an appropriately sized window overlooking green spaces such as a garden, it will really help to brighten up your small living room. Natural light can change the face of any interior space by giving it an aura of a fresh start.

3. Play with the scales

There are often furniture pieces which are just a little smaller in scale intended for cozy interiors. Keep an eye out for such pieces of furniture such as poufs or arm chairs. Using such furniture pieces to decorate, add a play of scale can make your living space seem much larger than it actually is. Rugs can also help in defining a space visually and tying up the furniture set for your ideal home.

4. Consider alternatives to coffee tables

If you have a small living room, you should definitely consider certain inter-cultural pieces of furniture. Such as a Kotatsu from Japanese culture. This setting is essentially a low setting table which requires people to sit on floor cushions to enjoy their food or warm beverages. This is also particularly helpful in living spaces where the ceiling isn't particularly high. There are many centre table variants which have a similar system for dining within the living room.

5. Keep it cozy

In a small space it is advisable to go for soft colors so that the space feels more airy. Avoid any “heavy” seeming interior decor items. Earthy warm tones can also work but they need to be used with some amount of caution. Using an L-shaped sofa set can also help your living room come a lot closer to the cosy-ness of your ideal home.
