Planning your new luxury bathroom? Bear in mind, the wash basin will definitely have a significant impact on the overall look of the bathroom. The wash basin is part of a functional space so it has to be more than just aesthetics, it needs to be comfortable and convenient to use, too. The truth is that selecting the right wash basin and their bathroom fittings can be a bit overwhelming, but only when one doesn’t know what to look for. Before heading out, consider who will use the room and how much space is available. Read on to find out the guidelines from Creatalog to choose the right wash basin which will fit right in with the bathroom fittings and the shower of your luxury bathroom

1. Under counter wash basin:

This type of sink sits underneath the counter and is ideal for a busy family bathroom. This sink creates a seamless, clean look, making it easy to fit in with bathroom fittings.Water and spills can be wiped directly from the countertop into the sink without any obstruction, making it an easy-to-clean option for any family bathroom. However, under counter a sink will usually only be possible with a solid-surface countertop, isn’t suitable with a laminate, since it can’t be sealed well against moisture. These sinks compliment almost any shower, but also tend to cost more than top-mount wash basins.

2. Counter top wash basin.

A counter top wash basin, also sometimes referred to as a drop-in wash basin is designed to sit atop the counter. Since, most of the sink sits below the counter it is a great choice for luxury bathrooms with minimalist schemes. With just the rim visible above, depending on the choice of a slim or chunky style there are many possible shower combinations in a bathroom.

Counter top wash basins are suitable for most countertop materials and bathroom fittings, including wood and laminate, as the cutout is covered by the sink and therefore doesn’t risk being damaged by water. They also cost less in terms of installation in a stone countertop, because they don’t require polishing of the cutout edges. Their main disadvantage is the inability to wipe water or spills straight from the counter into the wash basin.

3. Pedestal wash basin:

The top preference for a period bathroom or traditional schemes is the simple wall-mounted sink. If the waste pipe must go through the floor and cannot be altered, then a pedestal sink is the best option. The main downside is lack of storage space under the sink or any counter space around it, so the design of bathroom fittings becomes critical here. Apart from that, it can be a bit tricky to clean, owing to the gap between the wall and the pedestal back. If these aren't issues, the pedestal design can turn out to be the perfect way to give the bathroom an aesthetically pleasing classical vibe, while smartly concealing the pipework.

4. Integrated sink and countertop.

Many off-the-shelf vanity cabinets offer an all-in-one countertop with a sink. It can be made from various materials, such as porcelain or acrylic. An integrated sink is easy to clean and works well with different kinds of shower spaces. There are no ridges or seams, so it’s streamlined and a great choice for busy family bathrooms. These sinks are generally available in set standard sizes. Integrated tops are usually designed so the countertop gradually slopes down and inward to create a sink in the middle. This can lead to having less flat counter space.

5. Wall-mounted sink.

On the contrary from luxury bathrooms, these wash basins are ideal for small spaces. Direct fixing onto the wall gives a streamlined and minimalist vibe to any bathroom.

Lack of cabinets below this wash basin, saves space and also leaves more visible floor area, making the space feel larger. For a wall-mounted sink to function properly the plumbing, including the waste, must be positioned inside the wall thoughtfully. Consider the need for storage in your bathroom before opting for a wall-mounted sink and maybe reserve it for the powder room, where storage isn’t as important.
